ONLY YOU CAN SEE

Charcoal on paper drawing is an image of Istanbul in dimensions of 205cmx140cm. The city, which has a very old history, is occupied by the public space by spreading to larger areas horizontally and vertically, like all cities. With very large and tall modern buildings, there is almost no space left. In the pattern, we see the reflection of the landscape behind on the facade of one of these buildings. It references the urban memory, the new landscape and the compactness of the space, with its deformed and erased vibratory form. I established the reflection of the chaotic urban life of the physical and sociological squeeze of the urban person with Mondrian’s “Modern Grids”, which is the final point of tree study/patterns. The last point reached by being erased from the vast landscape, by closing it, makes us feel what we can see and see, our borders, contact and the process of our distance with an intricate (lattice-grid).

Kağıt üzeri Karakalem desen, 205cm x140cm boyutlarında İstanbul’a ait bir görüntüdür. Tarihi oldukça eskiye dayanan şehir,  tüm şehirler gibi yatay ve dikeyde daha geniş alanlara yayılarak kamusal alan işgal edilir. Çok geniş ve yüksek modern binalarla neredeyse hiç  boşluk kalmamıştır. Desende, arkada kalan manzaranın bu binalardan birinin cephesine yansımasını görmekteyiz. Yansımadan deforme olmuş, silinmiş titreşimli haliyle kent belleğine, yeni manzaraya ve mekanın sıkışmışlığına referans verir.  Kaotik kent yaşamının kent insanın fiziksel ve sosyolojik sıkışmışlığının yansımasını biçimsel bakımından Mondrian’nın ağaç etüd/desenlerin nihai vardığı son nokta olan “Modern Gridler”i ile kurdum. Uçsuz bucaksız manzaradan silinerek, kapatılarak gelinen son nokta görüp görebileceğimizi, sınırlarımızı, teması ve mesafemizin sürecini girift (kafes- ızgara) ile hissettiriyor.
