In the context of the body and space relationship, from past to present, “crime and punishment” focuses on the changing value and expanding contexts of the space built to control the distance and contact of the body, from the dungeon to today’s prison and surveillance. According to Bauman, while “surveillance” was the surveillance of neighbors as a “security” tool for pre-modern societies, in the modern period, as a result of state intervention, the society was divided into specialized observers and those who were observed.

This work is a site-specific installation in the Anemas dungeon with a large number of hand molds taken from the hands of visitors and residents.

In the uncertainty of the crime and the judiciary, the justice of every punishment made to the body should also be questioned.

Anemas Dungeon of the 11th century, Byzantine period, Istanbul was a state prison reserved for the heroes of many important events with high positions.

AdsızBeden ve mekan ilişkisi bağlamında, geçmişten günümüze “suç ve ceza”, bedenin mesafe ve temasının kontrolü için inşa edilen mekanın, zindandan günümüz hapisanesine ve gözetlemenin değişen  değer ve genişleyen bağlamlarına odaklanır. Geçmişte değersiz görülen bedene ya da uzva yapılan fiziksel ceza, günümüzde ruha, hürrüyete yapılmaktadır. Bauman’a göre, “gözetim” modernite öncesi toplumlar için bir “güvenlik” aracı olarak komşuların birbirini gözetlemesi iken modern dönemde devlet müdahalesi sonucunda toplum uzmanlaşan gözetleyenler ve gözetlenenler olarak ikiye ayrıldı.

Bu iş Anemas zindanı’nda, ziyaretçi ve mahalelilerin ellerinden alınmış çok sayıda el kalıbı ile yapılmış bir site-spesific enstalasyondur. 

Suçun ve yargının belirsizliğinde bedene yapılan her cezanın adaleti de sorgulanmalıdır.

11.yy, Bizans dönemine ait Anemas Zindanı, İstanbul, yüksek mevki sahibi bir çok önemli olayın kahramanı kimselere mahsus bir devlet hapisanesiydi.
